Where to Buy New Orleans Streetwear

If you are looking for clothing that is actually from New Orleans rather than printed for tourists, here is how to tell the difference.

What to look for

Made here, not just sold here. A lot of what is on Decatur Street was designed from a template and drop-shipped. Look for a brand that names the city it is from and the person who runs it.

Specificity. Generic NOLA script is a souvenir. A piece that names a ward, a neighborhood or a street was made by somebody from here, because nobody else knows which ones matter.

Weight. A tourist tee is lightweight and see-through. Streetwear is heavyweight, and it survives being worn.

Printed to order versus warehoused. Printed to order means no overstock, no discount bin, and the brand is not guessing what will sell.

Where to look

Direct from independent brands. Most New Orleans streetwear is sold brand-direct online rather than through retailers. Artistik Passionz is at artistikpassionz.com.

Local boutiques and salons. Independent shops across Uptown, Mid-City and the Marigny stock local brands on consignment. It changes constantly, so ask.

Markets and pop-ups. The Frenchmen Street art market, the Freret Market and Carnival-season pop-ups are where new brands surface first.
